Glad to see old companies I loved keep up with the times.

The most delicious panda bears in the world.
Here’s the new Meiji Logo from Brand New.

Old vs. New
Personally, I think it’s a huge improvement. The old logo was some obscure, fat, Bodoni-like font that had figures blown out of proportion and whacked out spacing. The new one does have some issues with kerning (the “eiji” needs to be loosen up a bit to compensate for the fat m and e) and letter weights (the “m” is a bit too heavy), but it’s sexy, Asian and will definitely look good on my Hello Panda.

i can’t see the whole image! (not on a super big monitor unlike you)
@Mark haha! woops, my bad!
Honestly, I love the italicized Meiji as well as the new one. I agree that the new one has some kerning issues. I love the new m and the j; the e is a bit too prominent.
But look at what they’re saying goodbye to! Look at the beautiful old chocolate bar design with the calligraphy—so full of character!
The new logo is gorgeous; modern without looking too trendy. I think it’ll last a long time without looking dated, but I’m disappointed with how they’re implementing the identity as a whole.
I hope companies really begin to learn that their identity isn’t just their logo. That’s what this feels like to me. Their logo is gorgeous, but it looks like they slapped a beautiful logo on a bunch of products that don’t match the caliber of design the logo attains.
